Vice Chancellors and Rectors Meet in Islamabad to Strengthen Higher Education Collaboration

An important monthly meeting of Vice Chancellors and Rectors of federal universities and higher education institutions in Islamabad and Rawalpindi was held at Air University, Islamabad, bringing together senior academic leadership to discuss key priorities, emerging challenges, institutional development, and opportunities for greater collaboration across Pakistan’s higher education sector.

The meeting was attended by Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, S.I., as Chief Guest, accompanied by senior HEC officials, including Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman, Dr. Nasir Mahmood, and Dr. Habib Boukhari. The gathering provided an important platform for university leaders and higher education policymakers to exchange perspectives on strengthening the country’s academic ecosystem.

Air Marshal (R) Abdul Moeed Khan, HI(M), Vice Chancellor of Air University, welcomed the participating Vice Chancellors and Rectors and emphasized the importance of collective efforts, knowledge sharing, and stronger institutional collaboration in addressing emerging challenges and promoting academic excellence.

During the interactive session, university leaders discussed several key areas, including quality assurance, research and innovation, inter-university collaboration, institutional governance, and academic excellence. Participants emphasized the importance of sharing expertise, resources, and best practices among higher education institutions and explored opportunities for joint initiatives aimed at improving educational standards and fostering sustainable academic growth.

As part of the gathering, participants also visited the Cyber Security Centre at Air University, where they received a briefing on the Centre’s activities, capabilities, and initiatives in cybersecurity and emerging technologies. The visit highlighted the growing importance of technological innovation and cybersecurity expertise within Pakistan’s higher education landscape.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the official launch of the Young CEOs, Entrepreneurs and Innovators Summit, Expo & Awards 2026 by Chairman HEC Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, alongside Vice Chancellors, Rectors, and members of the organizing committee. The Summit is scheduled for 15–16 October 2026 at Bahria University Islamabad and follows recommendations from the 6th International Students Convention & Expo.

The upcoming Summit aims to promote entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership, and industry-academia linkages among young people, creating opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs, innovators, and future leaders to connect with academia and industry.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation among universities and collectively contributing to human capital development, academic excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship, and Pakistan’s socio-economic and national development.
