Mission Statement


The mission of the Computer Science, doctoral programme at SZABIST is to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and intellectual habits required for successful careers in research, teaching, and professional service. The programme places primary emphasis on the development of research competence and also emphasizes teaching as a vehicle to academic professionalism, resulting in strengthening of the nexus between Teaching and Research.
The doctoral programme is integral to the Department mission of furthering its status as a premier CS department.


Objectives


SZABIST offers an individualized, strongly research-oriented Ph.D. (Computer Science) programme. Key objectives are to train the PhD candidates to become independent researchers and leaders of academia and industries. This programme allows students to pursue cutting edge research in modern fields of computer science. Successful candidates are expected, to demonstrate a mastery of their discipline, to disseminate existing knowledge, to significantly advance the state of knowledge and to accurately present research in writing. The nature of the student’s research programme must be on a scale which can be completed during three to four years of full-time study or equivalent.


Research Topics


Computer Science faculty has a wide range of research interests including but not limited to Database Engineering, Data Warehousing & Mining, Networking & Communication, Business Intelligence, Telecommunication, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Theoretical Computer Sciences, Distributed Computing, Machine Vision & Image Processing.


Admission Requirements


For admission to the PhD Program, the candidate must have:

  • A 17.5 – 18 years of education with minimum 60% marks /CGPA 3.00 from any HEC-recognized university in the relevant field of study.

  • GAT Subject with minimum 60% score.

  • An entrance test and group discussion / interview are mandatory for all applicants at SZABIST.


Degree Requirements


Minimum requirements for Ph.D. are as follows:

  1. GAT Subject Test/GRE International . The minimum acceptable scores are as follows:

    1. 60% Percent Score: Valid for admissions thereafter

  2. A total of 48 credit hours must be completed.

    1. 18 credit hours of Ph.D. course work.

    2. 30 credit hours of Ph.D. dissertation. Includes (3 credit hours of Qualifying examination).

  3. Ph.D. level course work of at least 18 credit hours followed by a Comprehensive Examination. This includes a minimum of 6 credit hours of Independent Study.

  4. Ph.D. Comprehensive Examination is used to assess a student’s course and general knowledge of proposed research area.

  5. Ph.D. Qualifying Examination will constitute the Ph.D. research proposal, which must be presented and defended before the Doctoral Committee.

  6. An open defense of Dissertation is essential for the award of Ph.D. degree.

  7. Acceptance/publication of at least one research paper in an HEC approved “X” category journal is essential for the award of Ph.D. degree.

  8. The Ph.D. Dissertation is evaluated by at least two Ph.D. experts from technologically/academically advanced foreign countries in addition to local Committee members.
