Students from the Departments of Social Sciences and Media Sciences at SZABIST University Islamabad actively participated in the International Migrants Day event, engaging with policymakers, practitioners, media professionals, and storytellers to better understand the lived realities of migration from Pakistan, particularly in relation to education and livelihood opportunities.
Through insightful panel discussions, theatrical performances, and personal migration narratives, students explored key themes such as mobility, aspiration, risk, media representation, and safe migration pathways. The event provided a dynamic applied learning platform where academic concepts from sociology, economics, political science, media studies, and development studies were directly connected to real-world migration experiences.
The interaction with national and international stakeholders enhanced students’ critical thinking, policy literacy, and empathy-driven analysis. The learning experience contributed meaningfully to the understanding of global development challenges and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
This initiative reinforced the importance of evidence-based, ethical, and humane approaches to migration governance while reflecting SZABIST Islamabad’s commitment to experiential learning and socially responsive education.
