Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is one of the top 10 skills of the future in the wake of the 4th industrial AI revolution( World Economic Forum, 2019). Since studies have linked EQ crucial for, academic, professional and life success, keeping in view the importance of the topic a faculty development workshop was arranged by the Management Science Department under the mentorship of HoD (MS) Professor Dr. M Asif Khan.
The workshop titled, “ Role of Emotional intelligence in teaching and research” provided awareness, and brainstormed ways emotional knowledge could be integrated into teaching methodologies and provided cutting edge research on the subject. It was aimed at providing practical tools to self-awareness, developing a growth mindset to grow professionally and develop a research profile.
The learning outcomes were:
- Understand the basics of emotions and research on neuroscience on working of the brain
- Understand the dimensions of EQ at the workplace
- Busts the myths of self-sameness, and learn self-awareness
- Develop a growth mindset
- Know the determinants to become an effective and emotionally intelligent teacher
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Faryal Razzaq Assistant Professor, Management Sciences department, SZABIST Pakistan, She holds a PhD in EQ and developed the first EQ model in Pakistani workplace, she is a certified Mindfulness coach, Cognitive Emotive Behavioral therapist and a social psychologist. She is also the CEO of The FEEEL (PVT) Ltd first company that provides digital emotional hygiene solutions.
