Bridging Universities and Industry for Pakistan’s Sustainable Economic Future: Seminar at SZABIST Islamabad

Islamabad, October , 2026: The Department of Management Sciences at SZABIST University Islamabad organized an insightful seminar titled “Bridging Universities and Industry for Pakistan’s Sustainable Economic Future: Macroeconomic Challenges, Industrial Growth, Innovation, and Development Opportunities.” The seminar brought together students and distinguished academic and economic experts to discuss Pakistan’s evolving economic landscape and the importance of strengthening connections between higher education and industry.

The seminar was organized by Nasir Munir and Asma Javed, with active participation from students of BBA 3-A and B (Macroeconomics), BBA 8-A (Pakistan Economy), and BSS-2 (Introduction to Economics). The event provided an academic platform for students to explore contemporary economic challenges and understand the relationship between theoretical knowledge and practical industry requirements.

The distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Amir Zia, a political economist and public policy researcher with over two decades of teaching and research experience and a PhD from Quaid-i-Azam University, shared valuable insights into Pakistan’s macroeconomic challenges, industrial development, innovation, and emerging development opportunities. Drawing on his research for the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) on graduate employability, he emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between academic learning and industry expectations.

The seminar was further enriched by the presence of renowned economist Dr. Masroor, whose participation added to the academic significance of the discussion. The speakers highlighted the importance of stronger university–industry linkages in preparing graduates with relevant knowledge and skills while supporting industrial growth and sustainable economic development.

The session provided students with an opportunity to connect classroom concepts with Pakistan’s contemporary economic realities. An interactive question-and-answer session encouraged meaningful discussions on macroeconomic challenges, employment opportunities, industrial growth, innovation, and sustainable development. Students actively engaged with the speakers and gained broader perspectives on the economic issues shaping the country’s future.

At the conclusion of the seminar, Program Manager Dr. Shumaila presented commemorative shields to the distinguished guests as a token of appreciation. The Department of Management Sciences also acknowledged the contributions of the guest speakers, SZABIST administration, faculty members, organizers, and participating students in making the event successful.

The seminar reaffirmed SZABIST University Islamabad’s commitment to academic excellence, critical thinking, and meaningful university–industry collaboration. Through such academic engagements, the university continues to provide students with opportunities to understand real-world economic challenges and prepare for their future roles in Pakistan’s evolving economic and industrial landscape.
