Islamabad, October, 2026: As part of its World Mental Health Day 2026 activities, the Department of Social Sciences at SZABIST University Islamabad Campus hosted an engaging session titled “Beyond ‘I’m Fine’: An Open Conversation on Mental Health.” The session featured Dr. Uzma Masroor, Dean of Social Sciences, Bahria University, Islamabad, and was organized by Maria Rafique Qureshi, Senior Lecturer.
The session provided an opportunity for participants to look beyond everyday responses and engage in meaningful conversations about emotions, feelings, and psychological well-being. Dr. Masroor highlighted the importance of recognizing emotional experiences, understanding mental health concerns with empathy, and seeking support when needed.
Reflecting the World Mental Health Day 2026 theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change,” the discussion emphasized listening without judgment and creating supportive spaces where individuals feel comfortable expressing their concerns. It encouraged participants to approach mental health conversations with openness, respect, and compassion.
Students from BS International Relations, BS Economics, BS Psychology, and BS Social Sciences, alongside faculty members and other attendees, actively participated in the session. Through questions and discussion, students explored mental health-related concerns and connected the speaker’s insights with their own understanding and everyday experiences.
The interactive exchange encouraged participants to reflect on their emotional well-being and consider ways to support people around them. It also highlighted the importance of reducing stigma and making help-seeking a more accepted part of university life.
The Department of Social Sciences expressed its sincere appreciation to Dr. Uzma Masroor for sharing her expertise and encouraging thoughtful dialogue. The department also acknowledged the participation of students, faculty members, and attendees in making the session a meaningful learning experience.
Through such initiatives, SZABIST University Islamabad continues to promote awareness, empathy, and open communication around mental health, contributing to a university community where individuals feel heard, supported, and encouraged to care for their psychological well-being.
