SUMMARY:Social Sciences Freshmen Participate in Roleplay and Simulation Activity at SZABIST Islamabad
DESCRIPTION:Islamabad: The Department of Social Sciences at SZABIST University Islamabad Campus organized an interactive Roleplay and Simulation Activity for first-semester students\, providing them with an opportunity to explore real-world social challenges through practical and interdisciplinary learning. \nDuring the activity\, students stepped into the roles of diplomats\, policymakers\, grassroots activists\, and community leaders to examine complex social issues and explore possible solutions. The simulation encouraged participants to approach different scenarios from multiple perspectives while developing a deeper understanding of social challenges and their wider implications. \nThe activity focused on strengthening essential academic and interpersonal skills\, including confidence\, public speaking\, active listening\, critical thinking\, empathy\, and decision-making. By engaging in realistic scenarios\, students gained an opportunity to move beyond theoretical learning and apply their classroom knowledge to practical situations. \nThe interdisciplinary activity connected three key areas of Social Sciences: \n\n\n\n\nPsychology: Students explored human behaviour\, social regulation\, stigma\, and mental health dynamics\, highlighting the importance of empathy and community well-being in addressing social challenges. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEconomics: Students examined resource constraints\, market access\, and structural inequalities while considering practical approaches to sustainable livelihoods and economic development. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInternational Relations: Students explored institutional power\, diplomacy\, negotiation\, and governance frameworks to understand how complex social and global challenges can be addressed. \n\n\n\n\nThe activity also highlighted the connection between interdisciplinary learning and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being)\, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth)\, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities)\, and SDG 16 (Peace\, Justice and Strong Institutions). \nBy integrating Psychology\, Economics\, and International Relations from the beginning of their academic journey\, the initiative encouraged students to develop analytical abilities\, broaden their perspectives\, and build confidence in expressing their ideas. \nThrough such experiential learning opportunities\, SZABIST University Islamabad continues to promote interdisciplinary education and equip students with the knowledge\, practical skills\, and confidence needed to engage with real-world challenges and contribute positively to society.

SUMMARY:Development Studies Students Showcase Sustainable City Models at SZABIST Islamabad
DESCRIPTION:Islamabad: The Department of Social Sciences at SZABIST University Islamabad Campus organized a hands-on Urban Planning Classroom Activity for Development Studies students under the theme “Reimagining the Future: Sustainable Cities of Tomorrow.” The activity encouraged students to explore how cities can become economically viable\, socially equitable\, environmentally resilient\, and climate-smart. \nAs part of the exercise\, students designed and presented models of sustainable cities\, applying development theories and policy concepts to address real-world urban challenges. Their projects explored issues such as informal settlements\, transit-oriented development\, green infrastructure\, and the integration of renewable energy systems. \nThe interactive activity focused on three key dimensions of sustainable urban development: \n\n\n\n\nEnvironmental Resilience and Climate Adaptation: Students explored low-emission transportation networks\, waste-to-energy systems\, and urban green belts to reduce environmental pressures and address climate-related risks. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSocial Inclusion and Spatial Justice: The models addressed housing affordability\, spatial segregation\, and accessible public spaces\, highlighting the importance of inclusive urban development. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nResource Governance and Infrastructure: Students examined sustainable approaches to managing growing urban populations through efficient water\, sanitation\, and energy distribution systems. \n\n\n\n\nThe exercise enabled students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical spatial and policy design. It also encouraged critical thinking\, problem-solving\, and an understanding of the interconnected challenges associated with rapid urbanization. \nThrough such experiential learning initiatives\, SZABIST University Islamabad continues to promote practical and interdisciplinary education\, encouraging students to develop innovative approaches to development challenges and contribute towards more sustainable communities.
