SUMMARY:Climate Strike
DESCRIPTION:UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on all leaders to New York on 23 September with concrete\, realistic plans to enhance their nationally determined contributions by 2020\, in line with reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45 percent over the next decade\, and to net zero emissions by 2050. \nIn order to ensure that the transformative actions in the real economy are as impactful as possible\, the Secretary-General has prioritized the action portfolios\, which are recognized as having high potential to curb greenhouse gas emissions and increased global action on adaptation and resilience. One of the secondary key areas includes Youth Engagement and Public Mobilization\, where people especially youth is beingmobilized worldwide to take action on climate change and ensure that young people are integrated and represented across all aspects of the Climate Summit. \nIn response to this from 20-27 September 2019\, record 7.6 million people took to the streets and strike for climate action making it the biggest climate mobilization in history. From Jakarta to New York\, Islamabad to Amman\, Berlin to Kampala\, Istanbul to Québec\, Guadalajara to Asunción\, in big cities and small villages\, millions of people joined hands and raised their voices in defense of the climate. The Global Climate Strike showed that youth have the power that is required to create a just world and to end the era of fossil fuels. Students of SZABIST Islamabad Campus\, BBA programme also participated in this strike on the 20th of September 2019 to showcase the strong stance of SZABIST towards climate action. We at SZABIST believe that accelerated climate solutions can strengthen our economies and create jobs\, while bringing cleaner air\, preserving natural habitats and biodiversity\, and protecting our environment. \n\n

SUMMARY:Anti-Harassment Session
DESCRIPTION:Often individuals do not realize that a comment that they intended as a joke\, could be harassment according to the law. Therefore\, higher authorities of SZABIST Islamabad requires\, all the stakeholders must be sensitized to what constitutes harassment and how to create a culture of respect. \nThe several sessions have been organized by Dr. Shumaila Zeb\,an Assistant Professor Management Sciences\, SZABIST Islamabad to create awareness among the students and staff about specific behaviors that constitute harassment\, and anti-smoking and drugs in and outside the campus. The objective of these sessions is to have more regular opportunities that help the youth to build their skills and personalities as they are at a critical age and a sort of a turning point in our lives. \n

SUMMARY:BBA Students Walk for a Social Cause
DESCRIPTION:A clean up drive was organized by SZABIST Islamabad on 13th September 2019 in order to create the awareness of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) among students and public for waste management\, environmental concerns\, importance of repairing\, and improving the  public spaces or other areas  that have been neglected\, littered\, vandalized\, or misused. \n\nThe activity was led by Dr. Iffat Rasool an Assistant Professor Management Sciences. The students spent one hour at Salina Park H-8\, Islamabad and worked with park management to identify and eliminate eyesores\, picked up a litter and disposed of it properly.

DESCRIPTION:Orientation programs facilitate the successful transition of new students to SZABIST Islamabad. It helps prepare students for their academic experience\, promotes student involvement and engagement\, and provide information about student services and academic resources \nOn 2nd September 2019 SZABIST Islamabad’s New Student Orientation introduced new students of different programs to the wide array of academic\, intellectual\, leadership\, cultural\, and social experiences available at SZABIST. The learning outcomes of the freshmen orientation involved understanding the academic expectations and the process of enrollment\, utilization of academic support and student services\, learning about campus and community involvement through clubs\, organizations and developing relationships with students\, advisors\, faculty\, and staff.

SUMMARY:Faculty training (Academic Planning and Management)
DESCRIPTION:Faculty development training was held on the topic of “Academic Planning and Management”. The central theme focused on Academic Planning and Management\, Strategic Process of Academic Planning and Strategic Management\, and Resource Management (with a focus on Time Management). \nThe interactive discussion centered around three major areas of responsibility of faculty members. These included teaching (and learning)\, research (applying and doing)\, and service (heading/leading a department\, leading or members of a team\, and serving the community\, etc.). To achieve excellence in education\, these three major areas have to be planned and managed in a way to achieve the requisite efficiency and effectiveness. Equitable and transparent rewards for faculty facilitate achievement excellence in these areas.
