DESCRIPTION:Many students choose to study business because they hope to start businesses or non-profit organizations of their own someday or to join a family business\, or to bring an entrepreneurial spirit in their future profession. They need a way to practice their business plan writing and presenting skills outside the classroom.  With the experience that SZABIST has in organizing business plan competitions and with the expertise our faculty members have in helping students learn the fundamentals of business reasoning\, we can work together to prepare these business students for the future. \nZAB Maverick – A business plan competition was organized in the Entrepreneurial Week on 26th and 27th November 2019 with the aim of achieving the following objectives: \n\nAn opportunity for students to develop their business plans and acquire feedback from business professionals and investors to improve it further\nAn opportunity for students to get investment for their business idea that might turn out to be a successful venture\nInvolve a multiple-step process for giving some constructive feedback to all participants while promoting a small number of teams (6-10) to the final round.\nProvide a way for students to support one another and build a sense of community in the midst of competition.

SUMMARY:SZABIST and FJWU Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:SZABIST and FJWU Collaboration \n26 NOVEMBER 2019 \n Fatima Jinnah Women University\, Rawalpindi conducted a workshop on “Writing Literature Review\, Analysis & Methodology” on November 26\, 2019. The workshop was organized by Offices of Research\, Innovation\, and Commercialization (ORIC) at Fatima Jinnah Women University for faculty members from different departments and the students of Ph D\, and MS/M Phil of the university. \nIn line with the collaboration of SZABIST with FJWU\, Mr. Muddasar Ghani Khwaja (Lecturer- Faculty of Management Sciences) represented SZABIST and provided insights on the contemporary approaches of conducting academic research. He emphasized on the need of blending theoretical and contextual analysis for precision in academic research endeavors. \nThe session was interactive and students enthusiastically participated in the intellectual discourse. The main focus of their inquiry was the dynamics of literature review with conceptual\, theoretical and empirical perspectives and the methodological aspects of the research. \nThe session provided a platform to leverage the collaboration between SZABIST and FJWU for mutual benefits and the shared goal of quality education for the students for the socio-economic development of the county.

SUMMARY:Awareness Campaign on Depression & Suicide
DESCRIPTION:Social Sciences’ Students organized their 5th and 6th awareness campaign on Depression and Suicide \nUnder this domain\, students conducted various activities including Awareness desk\, walks at various locations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi\, developed a short video clip\, and a seminar graced by Dr. Kiran Amir and Mr. Ali Janjua. \nDr. Kiran highlighted the psychological aspects of depression\, various precursors and outcomes. Further\, she provided audience with effective coping strategies whenever they feel under stress and at risk of developing depression. \nMr. Ali Janjua as a motivational speaker and entrepreneur enlightened the session by sharing positivity and love among audience. He provided them with positive insight that how he struggled from scratch and now has become a successful person. SUMMARY:Inaugural event – ZAB Entrepreneurial Week
DESCRIPTION:Entrepreneurship is the act of creating a business while building and scaling it to generate a profit. Studying entrepreneurship benefits students and learners from different social and economic backgrounds because it teaches people to cultivate unique skills and think outside the box. Moreover\, it creates opportunity\, instills confidence\, ensures social justice and stimulates the economy. \nAs part of SZABIST Islamabad’s vision and mission\, the inaugural ceremony of ZAB Entrepreneurial week was organized on 25th November 2019 to familiarize students with the essence of entrepreneurship. Mr. Kashif Joseph was the chief guest of the event Mr. Kashif Joseph is an IT professional with over 18 years of experience. He is also an entrepreneur himself\, leading a BPO and a business consultancy. \nTo develop an understanding regarding the concept of ‘student entrepreneurs’\, some of the successful student entrepreneurs from BBA-5 and BBA-8 also shared brief presentations on how they have engaged in entrepreneurial activities\, along with simultaneously manage their studies. They also provided guidance to other students on ways to initiate\, plan and execute new ideas in the future.

DESCRIPTION:BBA Students Industrial Tour to Sihala Flour & General Mills \nAn industrial tour of BBA students was conducted to Sihala Flour & General Mills in Fall 2019. The comprehensive tour at close-by location allowed the students to get a holistic view of the production processes and the value chain that goes into the production of flour. The objectives were: \n\nHave a working knowledge of the building blocks\, major functions\, major business processes\, and major decisions (strategic\, tactical\, and operational) in a flour mill.\nHave a sound understanding of planning\, design\, develop and implement\, manage and monitor supply chain operations in technically optimized and commercially viable operations.\n\nStudents appreciated the tour as they learned in a practical environment. Students wished that more trips should be planned in the future as well.

SUMMARY:Mock Interview Session
DESCRIPTION:SZABIST\, Islamabad places due emphasis on providing its students with ample learning opportunities beyond the classroom learning environment. In line with our philosophy of taking experiential learning hand in hand with the curriculum\, the Department of Management Sciences arranged a mock interview session for the students of MBA –Day and BBA. The objective of the activity was to provide students with their first hands-on experience of appearing for an actual interview. \n\nOver period of a few weeks\, Ms. Sundas Azeem conducted a streamlined mock recruitment and selection process for her classes of HRM and SHRM. This involved allowing students to conduct an actual job analysis for a job of their choice\, helping them prepare their resumes\, creating a job advertisement\, choosing one of two real-time job advertisements advertised in leading dailies for appearing for a mock interview session and evaluating other candidates appearing for the job interview on actual interview evaluation forms. This streamlined activity over a period of few weeks gave students a hand-on experience of the intricacies of the staffing function of HRM. \n\nThe mock interview session was held on November 21st\, 2019. Students appeared for the mock interview session well prepared with their CVs and were evaluated on their KSAOs for the advertised entry-level jobs. Invited panelists\, Dr. Mubarik Hussain\, Dr. Sana Aroos and Mr. Rana Kashif conducted the interviews\, shared their insights and advised students on important tips for overcoming interview anxiety\, preparing for interviews and being mindful of their verbal and non-verbal language during interviews. Observing the panelists\, students also learned important tips for interview-taking in line with their course contents. Those in the audience evaluated the candidates on actual interview evaluation forms shared with their instructor as part of the next step of the selection process.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Animation Designing
DESCRIPTION:Two days Hands-on Workshop on Animation Designing was organized for BS Software Engineering students on 16-17 November 2019. Participants were able to learn multiple tools of animation designing from scratch by Sr. Developer of Quixel Mr. Jawad Ali Khan. \nCertificates were distributed among participants by the Head of Department. All participants requested HoD to organize such workshops in the future as well so that they can upgrade their skills which will ultimately help them in freelancing.

SUMMARY:BBA students’ visit to Pakistan Sweet Homes
DESCRIPTION:In order to familiarize students with the essence of corporate social responsibility\, faculty of management sciences took BBA students’ to Pakistan Sweet Homes on 20th November 2019 with an aim to understand the key values of Pakistan Sweet Homes and how their culture supports those values. \nInitially students visited the different sections including classrooms\, residential areas and the cafeteria under guidance of Mr. Asim. They also interacted with the children throughout the tour. In the end\, a brief interactive session headed by Mr. Zumurd Khan was also held\, in which students shared their feedback regarding Pakistan Sweet Home’s administration.

SUMMARY:Global Entrepreneurship Seminar
DESCRIPTION:The department of “Management Sciences” organized a Seminar on Global Entrepreneurship on November 21\, 2019\, for the final graduating batch of BBA and MBA enrolled in the course of “Entrepreneurship” at SZABIST Islamabad. \n\nThe purpose of the Global Entrepreneurial Seminar was to promote and initiate an idea to enhance the mental capabilities of management sciences students through their involvement in the entrepreneurial activities that would play an active role in sharpening entrepreneurial mindset in the students. Honorable Mr.Raja Amer Iqbal (former President Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industries)\, an entrepreneur with many diverse portfolios was the guest of honor for the seminar. He enlightened the students with the vast experience and knowledge that he carries that would improve the capacity building in students through the exposure and experiential-based learning being taught in the university. The Guest speaker motivated the students through his vast experience and knowledge towards the need of business startups and the contribution that they will put in stabilizing the economy in the future. \n\nThe honorable former president of RCCI\, Mr. Raja Amer Iqbal also appreciated the initiative taken by SZABIST and their students in organizing such fruitful activities. He also emphasized the students to actively participate in such skill-developing activities to help contribute towards the development\, especially towards the game-changing project of CPEC that will play an important role towards the contribution in uplifting the economy of Pakistan.

DESCRIPTION:BBA-5 (TRIP to “Public News TV”) \n  \nThe department of “Management Sciences” organized an educational trip on 18 November 2019 for the students of BBA-5 enrolled in the course of “Media Management” to the regional headquarters of “Public News TV” news channel in sector G-5 Islamabad\, accompanied by their instructor Mr. Syed Shahwar Hussain. The educational trip was to provide a platform for our business students to gain a deep understanding of the electronic media\, planning\, operation\, execution\, and management of their news content. \n\nThe information session was organized and held by Mr. Safdar\, Mr. Harmeet Singh\, Mr.Faisal and M/s Ayesha at Public News TV. The team briefed about the working of different media organizations\, regulatory affairs and the changing dynamics of media trends along with the question and answer session which imparted practical knowledge to the students which they can incorporate into their final semester project and future as well. This activity enabled the students to gain knowledge and a clear picture of the rules\, regulations\, and dynamics that the media channel goes through in handling the media content.

SUMMARY:Third Debate competition
DESCRIPTION:Debate competition was arranged for students of the management sciences department on 13th November 2019. The topic of discussion in this debate competition was ‘The positive and negative role of competition in the society’. There were two sessions in this competition. \n In the first session\, selected students from various classes discussed the positive and negative impact of competition. In the second session\, students from audience shared their arguments. Each participant was allowed to present arguments within time frame of 2.5-4 minutes. Participants were required to provide logical answers to arguments for supporting their argument. Dr. Wajid Hussain\, Dr. Mumtaz Aliand Mr. Shehryar were judges of this competition. \nAt the end of both sessions\, judges decided the winning team\, as well as the participants\, who stood first\, second and third in this competition. Certificates were presented to best performers from audience as well. \n\n

SUMMARY:Faculty Training Program
DESCRIPTION:Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is one of the top 10 skills of the future in the wake of the 4th industrial AI revolution( World Economic Forum\, 2019). Since studies have linked EQ crucial for\, academic\, professional and life success\, keeping in view the importance of the topic a faculty development workshop was arranged by the Management Science Department under the mentorship of HoD (MS) Professor Dr. M Asif Khan. \n\nThe workshop titled\, “ Role of Emotional intelligence in teaching and research” provided awareness\, and brainstormed ways emotional knowledge could be integrated into teaching methodologies and provided cutting edge research on the subject. It was aimed at providing practical tools to self-awareness\, developing a growth mindset to grow professionally and develop a research profile. \n\nThe learning outcomes were: \n\nUnderstand the basics of emotions and research on neuroscience on working of the brain\nUnderstand the dimensions of EQ at the workplace\nBusts the myths of self-sameness\, and learn self-awareness\nDevelop a growth mindset\nKnow the determinants to become an effective and emotionally intelligent teacher\n\n\nThe workshop was conducted by Dr. Faryal Razzaq Assistant Professor\, Management Sciences department\, SZABIST Pakistan\, She holds a PhD in EQ and developed the first EQ model in Pakistani workplace\, she is a certified Mindfulness coach\, Cognitive Emotive Behavioral therapist and a social psychologist. She is also the CEO of The FEEEL (PVT) Ltd first company that provides digital emotional hygiene solutions.

DESCRIPTION:Day-3 Awareness on Child Abuse (emotional\, physical\, sexual\, and neglect) \n\nSocial Sciences Department in continuation of its awareness campaign organized a seminar on 6th Nov 2019. \nSenator Ms. Sitara Ayaz and Dr. Shaheen Ashraf graced the occasion and enlightened the audience in the context of child abuse causes\, legal and social repercussion\, government’s role and policies\, as well as the preventive strategies. \n\nStudents of BSSS-3 Social Psychology class also showed the various activities that they have performed in the whole week for awareness of the masses within and outside of campus. Moreover\, they depicted various forms of child abuse in role-plays along with the messages from influential people of the society including media celebrities. \n\nIn the end\, guest speakers and HoD SS Dr. Taraq appreciated and thanked Ms. Aliya Abdul Hayee for organizing awareness campaigns and bringing out the hidden talents of students. Nocolae Goia visited the SZABIST Islamabad Campus and addressed the students on the topic of “Romania and Pakistan Relationship”\n\nThe Ambassador highlighted the need for good relationship among countries to promote harmony\, world peace\, and collaborative efforts to eradicate poverty.  He further highlighted the important aspects of Romanian history\, culture\, family life\, educational dimensions\, music and cuisine of Romania and its role in promoting global harmony and the role of youth in the nation building. \nHe emphasized the role of youth in the nation building. The Ambassador emphasized that the youth of a nation are the change agent who can transform the society and the nation. The Ambassador highlighted that Pakistani youth have tremendous potentials and have the capacity to initiate changes in the society for the benefit of all. He advised the students to channel their energies to positive outcomes and act responsibly to remain relevant and competitive in the global world. \n\nThe talk followed by an interactive questions/answer sessions. The students were enthusiastic about the talk and asked various questions ranging from culture\, educational opportunities\, immigration\, music and cuisine\, and the prospects of further enhancing the existing relationship between both the countries. The students identified the need for people to people contact the mutual understanding and a collaborative approach as good partners for the solutions of problems facing both the countries. \nThe Ambassador thanked SZABIST and the students for their energetic participation and interactive dialogue. \nKhusro Pervaiz Khan\, HOC Islamabad Campus presented the souvenir to the Ambassador.

DESCRIPTION:Social Sciences Department organized a workshop on 30th Oct 2019\, on Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)for Self-Empowerment. \nA renowned and leading trainer from USA and UK in the field of Hypnosis and NLP\, Dr. Uzma Masroor trained the new psychologist about self-empowerment\, overcoming own problems\, and how to effectively use this technique in counseling sessions. \nIn the end\, Dr. Taraq (HoD SS) thanked the organizer Ms. Aliya (PM BSSS) and the Instructor Dr. Uzma for organizing such a beneficial workshop. Participants were awarded certificates. All the participants appreciated the workshop and emphasized that such learning sessions should be organized in future as well.

DESCRIPTION:SZABIST Sports Fiesta Fall 2019 got underway on October 28\, 2019 with a stupendous response. SZABIST Sports Fiesta competitions have a lot of anticipation of who’s going to win the myriad sporting ventures. \nSZABIST Student Council has organized the event and it took place under the leadership of Mr. Bilal Ahmed Lecturer MS and faculty advisor. \nThe opening ceremony was addressed by Mr. Khusro Pervaiz Khan\, Head of Campus\, who emphasized the importance of sports activities for a healthy mind. He encouraged the students for interuniversity games. It was a great platform for students\, faculty and staff to get together and develop sportsman spirit.

DESCRIPTION:SZABIST in collaboration with Digital Transformation Solutions (DTS) Completed SAP Associate level training at Szabist. Initially\, two modules were offered for this batch\, SAP S4HANA Financials\, and SAP Materials Management. Trainings were executed on 27th of July 2019 and end up on 28th of September 2019. The next batch is planned to start from 2nd November 2019. \nParticipants were comprised of students along with professionals from different corporate as well as industrial sector organizations. \nAfter completion of their training\, a Certificate Distribution Ceremony was conducted at SZABIST Islamabad on 25th October 2019. \nHonorable Chief guests for this ceremony were Mr. Babar Hussain Khan the Managing Director DTS-SAP\, Mr. Khusro Pervaiz Khan\, Head of Campus SZABIST Islamabad and Head of Department Management Sciences\, Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan. Other participants were Dr. Atif Bilal\, Program Manager (MBA-E)\, Dr. Fuwad Bashir\, Head Industrial Liaison\, Mr. Hassaan Bhatti\, Education Account Executive DTS. \nHonorable Guests emphasized the importance of such training\, which lead towards marketable learning outcomes in shape of a certified skill set. Dr. Fuwad thanked Mr. Khusro Pervaiz Khan\, Head of Campus SZABIST Islamabad and Head of Department Management Sciences\, Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan for their efforts and support to make such initiatives possible. He also thanked Mr. Babar Hussain Khan for his untiring efforts for the students to provide them such a professional skillset at a very affordable price. SUMMARY:Seminar on awareness and management of Academic\, emotional & Behavior
DESCRIPTION:A student’s behavior can affect her/his ability to learn as well as other students‘ learning environment. Students who behave disruptively by bullying other students\, talking during lectures or by requiring the teacher to interrupt lessons to discipline them can have a negative effect on an entire classroom. Characteristics and behaviors associated with emotional disturbance and behavioral problems may include aggressive or anti-social behavior; inattentiveness; distractibility and impulsiveness; impaired social interactions; a general inability to cope with the routine of daily tasks. \nAcademic\, emotional and behavioral problems can affect a student’s energy level\, concentration\, dependability\, mental ability\, and optimism\, hindering performance. Research suggests that depression is associated with lower grade point averages and that co-occurring depression and anxiety can increase this association. Proper counseling and psychotherapy services are used to manage academic\, emotional and behavioral problems. \nFor this purpose\, Seminar On Awareness and Management of Academic\, Emotional & Behavior Problems among University Studentswas conducted on Thursday\, 24-10-2019. A huge number of students participated and they learn how they can identify when someone is suffering from Academic\, Emotional & Behavior Problems. If they are unable to manage by themselves\, they should approach the counselor. Our respected HOC also discussed the counseling services for students in SZABIST Islamabad Campus.

SUMMARY:RAISING AWARENESS AGAINST DENGUE
DESCRIPTION:Students of Community Services Semester 1 (Social Sciences) were assigned task to disseminate awareness on Dengue Fever among those who have less exposure to media and information but exposed most of the time to conditions that make them vulnerable to Dengue fever. \nStudents were given detail information about the incubation period of dengue\, clinical presentation of dengue\, type of dengue such as hemorrhagic dengue and etiology\, diagnosis and clinical management of the illness. Students were divided into different groups and were assigned to disseminate information among support staff of SZABIST. \nThe students reached out all such people not just within the premises of SZABIST but outside SZABIST too. The results indicated that only 20% were aware of the illness and that too because they have someone in their family members who suffered from dengue fever. Few of the information receivers responded that their family members are facing the symptoms but they are treating it at home. The awareness gave them insight to adopt precautionary measures and consult doctors well in time.

DESCRIPTION:The Art of Supervising a Dissertation/Thesis \n(1-day training by Dr. Shazia Akhtar) \n\nOne day training on the “Art of supervising a dissertation/thesis” was held on Friday 11 Oct 2019 in the conference room for the faculty of Management Sciences as part of the Faculty Development Program\, fall 2019. The Resource person was Dr. Shazia Akhtar who is Associate Professor/Program Manager at Szabist\, Islamabad. She is an HEC approved Supervisor having experience of supervising 38 MS students and 1 PhD student with an Impact Factor publication. Moreover she is a corporate trainer for the past 15 years attached with OGDCL\, NIBAF\, Weatherford\, INGO’s and many other organizations of repute. \nThe training comprised of 02 parts. In the first half the content comprised of Basic Facts\, Role of supervisor and Ten Technical aspects which were general guidelines for supervising undergraduate / MBA student’s independent research/business research projects. The second part of the training was dedicated to supervision of MS/PhD students in which the content comprised of  stages of supervision  such as Stage One :Negotiating expectations Stage Two: Presenting an overview of the research process Stage Three :Getting serious Stage Four Let’s talk about organizational integrity Stage Five Precisely what’s going to be done\, when and how? Stage Six How are we going to structure this behemoth? Stage Seven What?  They’ve actually got to present this stuff to other people? Stage Eight All hurdles jumped\, now what? Stage Nine (Or… “I knew I could\, I knew I could”[courtesy The Little Red Engine – paraphrased]) Stage Ten I thought I was done!! and Annotated Bibliography. \nThe training ended with a note of thanks from the HoD\, Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan who appreciated and acknowledged the Resource Persons experience/ efforts to deliver such an intensive training and emphasized on the importance of such trainings to enable the faculty to enhance their skills of supervision and uplift the research standards of Szabist\, Management Department.

DESCRIPTION:Since 1989 every year the International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction is celebrated around the world to encourage the individuals\, communities and governments to get involved in constructing a disaster resilient environment. Accordingly\, on Wednesday\, October 10th\, 2019 the SZABIST Islamabad Management Department with the directions of Professor Dr. M. Asif Khan arranged a seminar on International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction. \nThe guest speaker Mr. Ansar Ayyub\, the consultant Training &CBDRM(FERRP) shed the light on importance of International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction for the vulnerable situation against several calamities on individual and communal level in Pakistan. He further advocated the economic\, social\, environmental consequences of failure to manage disaster risk\, particularly for vulnerable groups in low and middle-income countries like Pakistan and stressed the youth to take step to get themselves educated to raise awareness about the source of natural hazards\, associated risks and ways to reduce their impact.
