PMEX is the first technology driven\, web-based\, demutualized multi-commodity exchange in Pakistan and is owned by National Bank of Pakistan Limited (33.98%)\, Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited (28.41%)\, ISE Towers REIT Management Limited (17.76%)\, LSE Financial Service Limited (7.25%)\, Pak Brunei Investment Company Limited (6.80%)\, Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (2.90%)\, Pak Kuwait Investment Company Limited (2.90%)\, Individuals (0.0001%). Students fully participated in the activities and Mr Irfan Kasan answered the queries of students related to functions and trading procedures of Mercantile exchange.

The keynote speaker Mr. Naeem Iqbal\, President Agile PK discussed how to adopt agility in order to cope up with changing times. The awareness session included activities supervised by Mr. Naveed Ramazan\, Chapter President Agile PK which engaged the participants and gave them a feel of working in an agile team and environment. The session was concluded by Mr. Khusro Pervaiz Khan\, HOC SZABIST Islamabad Campus who shared his experience of implementing agile practices at SZABIST during the pandemic. DESCRIPTION:     Two PhD Viva Voce – Management Sciences – Ms Saima Nosheen and Ms Gul Bahar \nOn 09 and 10 March 2021\, Viva Voce for two PhD students from Management Sciences department were held at SZABIST Islamabad. The Head of SZABIST Islamabad Campus\, Mr Khusro Pervaiz Khan graced both sessions through his presence. Attendance in both sessions was mandatory for all PhD scholars. Ms Saima Noor did her specialization in Human Resource Management. Her dissertation topic has been ‘the Mediating Role of Person-Environment Fit in the Linkage between Leadership Styles and Individual Work Performance in High Power Distance Culture’. In the second Viva Voce\, Ms Gul Bahar defended her dissertation. Her area of specialization has also been Human Resources Management and her dissertation topic has been Antecedents of Employee and Organizational Ambidexterity Leading to Competitive Advance: An Integrated Model. Both defense sessions were attended by local supervisors\, internal examiners and were witnessed by foreign examiners. Both Ms Saima and Ms Gul successfully defended their dissertation. SUMMARY:Workshop on Research Gap Identification MBA series of Workshops
DESCRIPTION:The workshop on ‘Research Gap Identification’ was held at Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology for the students of MBA on 9th march 2021. It was an interactive session by Ms. Sundas Azeem who was the resource person and permanent faculty at SZABIST Islamabad. The Program Manager of MBA Dr.Shazia Akhtar introduced the Resource Person and the purpose of the workshop which was part of the series of workshops to improve the overall quality of research of MBA students.  The workshop main focus was to set a direction for the students and bring light to the initial steps that are involved in undertaking any Research. \nThe workshop started off discussing where to actually begin your Research: what should be done and what should be avoided right from the beginning. The concept of Research Gap Identification was introduced and was further elaborated through the reliable sources of Gap Identification that helped to identify the gap. Some important themes of the workshop were \n\nCounterintuitive Argument\nNew Perspective\nFuture Research directions of existing paper\nSee a problem around you? What does study say about it?\nMeta-analysis\n\n\nIn the end a question/answer session was conducted where students asked their queries regarding the topic of discussion. Some of the question that were asked are stated below: \n\nIf there is a research area that has not been touched upon for quite some time i.e. last research 10 years ago in 2010. Could it be identified as a research gap that could be taken in to account for thesis?\nThe area of Digital Marketing has not made much progress research wise in Pakistan. Would it be a good area to find a Research gap in?\nHow important is it to correctly identify the Research gap? What consequences would it carry if a mistake is made?\nHow much time should one take on Gap Identification?\n\nIn all\, it was a very informative session which was much appreciated by the students. It cleared up many confusions in the minds of the student and gave them a sense of direction in identifying what possible areas can be researched on through Research Gap Identification. \n

SUMMARY:MBA EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING ACTIVITY
DESCRIPTION:Considering the significance of Pakistan stock exchange (PSX) in promoting the activities of\ncapital market\, an onsite visit was arranged by Visiting Faculty Mr. Mohummad Arshad for MBA Portfolio & Investment Management students of SZABIST on March 08\, 2021. \n  \nVisit of Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) \n  \nThe scholars of MBA visited PSX and in this regard the regional head of PSX arranged a presentation regarding the role of PSX and trading activities. The key areas briefed by PSX team are as under; \n  \n\nPSX after merger of three stock exchange and demutualization process has emerged as a new trading platform for boosting capital market activities. As on March 8th\, 2021 there are 549 companies listed in PSX and the total market capitalization is Rs. 8\,079.455 billion.\n\n  \n\nPSX has formulated three different indexes based on the criteria already prescribed for companies to be included in these indexes. These are as under;\n\n  \n\nKSE 30 INDEX: KSE 30 Index includes the top 30 most liquid companies listed on PSX based on Free Float methodology\nALL INDEX: Consists of all listed companies on PSX based on Full Cap methodology.\nTrading activities in PSX: The regional head also introduced the trading mechanism in PSX and integration with CDC and NCCPL . The process of trading of share was explained in detail along with its settlement and clearing.\nUpon query\, it was apprised that issuance of share is a critical financial decision for companies and for this purpose; PSX has revamped the IPO process in collaboration with apex regulator.\n\n  \n\nThe PSX team also highlighted the significance of stock market and deliberated that it is one of the most liquid markets in Pakistan which have 17% return which is more than any saving in bank account. Currently there are 50 million people have bank account in Pakistan but just 2 lac people are trading in stock exchange.\nThe speaker guided the MBA students that they have an opportunity to invest in the stock market. They also guide students how to analyze the companies share and the sell or buy these companies share and get returns.\n\n  \n\nVISIT TO STOCK BROKER: In order to have flair of real market activities\, PSX also arranged a visit to securities broker where trading of shares was carried out.\n\n  \nThe management of securities broker briefed about the trading of shares and highlighted the key fundamentals for determining the prices of shares. In this regard\, they apprised about the up and down in share price because of many reasons like company performance\, political interference. \nThe securities brokers also discussed type of trading like day trading in which the trading of shares are traded on daily bases and being a student it’s not better for students because it need more technical skill. On their other side there is long term trading in which the trading of shares are trading annually. For trading the shares we must needed a broker who looks after there up and down in the prices of share and then we sell or buy. \n  \nKSE-100 INDEX: This is the most recognized index of PSX which includes the largest companies on the basis of market capitalization. KSE 100 Index stocks has a representation of all the market sectors of PSX. The Index represents 85% of all the market capitalization of the Exchange. It is calculated using Free Float Market Capitalization methodology \n

He further explained the pros and cons of different databases that are currently being utilized by private and Government organizations inside Pakistan. \nIn addition\, Mr. Naseeb ul Hassan also helped students to go through some of the practical work in this aspect. He guided students about how to create databases\, Tables\, Queries\, Forms\, and Reports in MS ACCESS. At the end of each topic\, students were encouraged to engage in a Q & A session by the guest speaker. DESCRIPTION:A WEBINAR on the above topic was organized for students of the MBA program as part of their Experiential learning activities on 16th Dec 2020. The Resource person was Mr. Muhammad Kashif. Mr. Muhammad Kashif is working as Assistant Professor\, Business School at GIFT University\, Pakistan. With 15 years of full-time teaching and research experience within Pakistan and abroad\, he has published 55 manuscripts\, including articles and cases in internationally acclaimed journals. His notable case study contribution is his publication of a case study in the Strategic Management Text Book published by Wiley and a case study published by Emerald. He served as guest editor for British Food Journal in the past and is currently Editor\, South Asian Journal of Marketing. Moreover\, for Emerald Publishing\, he works as a brand ambassador for Pakistan where the core role is to increase awareness among researchers concerning research methods and publications in international journals. In his role as a trainer\, he delivered various seminars and workshops all across Pakistan and in Indonesian\, Morocco\, and Sri Lankan universities. The session was moderated by Dr.Shazia Akhtar\, Program manager of MBA\, and was attended by more than 100 participants including both the faculty of Management Sciences and the MBA students. \nThis online lecture and a Q&A session covered the following issues: \n\nWhat is the rationality of writing cases in a business school context?\nWhat are the components and processes involved in writing the case study and teaching note?\nHow cases are evaluated by case study journals\n\nThe session was the first part of this series of Talks and was very interactive and thoroughly enjoyed by the participants. DESCRIPTION:Emphasis on giving maximum practical exposure for MBA students while they learn through their ongoing semester\, a specific webinar was arranged on 12th December 2020 through google meet. The topic of the webinar was “HRM – Traditional or Strategic View” featuring a focused discussion on the role of HR as a strategic component within any organization. Guest Speaker Ms. Mehwish Naseem Khan joined the webinar from the UK. Mehwish is a chartered MCIPD\, MSc. & MBA from London school of economics\, UK and Bharia University Pakistan respectively. She is CEO of HR upscale Ltd. \nAn active member of the chartered institute of personal development and a voluntary enterprise adviser\, CIPD. She has experience of 12 years including international experience in strategic HR Roles\, managerial positions\, and generalist roles across multiple countries such as UAE and Pakistan. Moreover global supporting role for KSA\, Oman\, Kuwait\, Iraq\, Algeria\, Egypt\, and Latin America. \nShe has practical exposure in managing recruitment\, organization\, and planning\, leadership programs implementation\, employee retention\, succession planning\, staff development\, conflict resolution. Before founding HR Upscale limited she served Weatherford Drilling International. \nThe topic gained a lot of attention from different semesters of the MBA program at SZABIST Islamabad and the webinar got maximum participation of around 70 students. It was an interactive session which was moderated by Dr. Shazia Akhter – Associate professor and program manager for the MBA program at SZABIST Islamabad and the webinar was organized by Shoaib Farooqui – Visiting Faculty for the MBA program at SZABIST Islamabad. \nThe students asked a lot of interesting questions covering a broader spectrum of managing HR during COVID 19 times\, retention of employees\, organizational culture\, \nand motivating employees. Mehwish shared her experiences while she answered questions from the audience. The key takeaway from the webinar is that the role of HR in the post-COVID 19 scenarios gained a lot of importance as people like to discuss their issues and at the same time organizational leadership sits with HR in interacting with people. \nMehwish emphasized continuous learning for everyone in this very dynamic world. \nView Gallery

DESCRIPTION:A Seminar was held on 5th November 2020 along with WEBINAR. The guest speaker Mr. Adeel Hasan graced the students with an interesting lecture. He is the CEO of a company named FOWREEY\, Which is Pakistan’s first web and App-based platform which delivers food\, grocery items\, bakery items\, etc right to your doorstep. \nThe lecture which Mr. Adeel gave was nothing short of an interactive session. By giving examples from his own 16 years of experience in different industries in multiple executive management roles\, he told the students to follow their passion while opening an entrepreneurial venture. Sir. Shahid Jahangir Raja as well as Dr. Iffat Rasool also added their past experiences. Mr. Adeel urged the students to learn from their experiences and to be job providers instead of job seekers. He also urged the female students to start entrepreneurial startups as help & support is easily available around them. \nIn the end\, Program Manager Dr. Shumaila Zeb joined the session and also motivated the students with her words of encouragement.
