SUMMARY:SZABIST BS Psychology Students Observe White Cane Safety Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:Islamabad\, October\, 2026: First-semester BS Psychology students from SZABIST University Islamabad Campus participated in White Cane Safety Day at the Al-Maktoom National Special Education Centre for Visually Handicapped Children (VHC). The visit provided students with an opportunity to learn about accessibility\, inclusion\, and the importance of empowering individuals with visual impairments. \nThe white cane represents more than a mobility aid; it is a symbol of independence\, confidence\, and dignity for people with visual impairments. White Cane Safety Day highlights the importance of recognizing the rights\, abilities\, and independence of visually impaired individuals while promoting awareness about their mobility and accessibility needs. \nDuring the visit\, students had the opportunity to interact with the children and staff at Al-Maktoom Centre. These interactions helped them develop a deeper understanding of the everyday experiences of individuals with visual impairments and the importance of empathy\, respect\, and inclusive environments. \nFor aspiring psychology professionals\, the experience offered valuable practical learning beyond the classroom. It encouraged students to recognize human diversity\, understand accessibility challenges\, and appreciate the role of advocacy in creating supportive and barrier-free communities. \nThrough such community engagement initiatives\, SZABIST University Islamabad continues to encourage experiential learning\, social responsibility\, and awareness of inclusion. The activity reinforced the importance of building a society where everyone has the opportunity to participate independently and with dignity.
