SUMMARY:Academic Field Visit to Taxila | Culture\, Arts & Society at SZABIST University Islamabad
DESCRIPTION:As part of its commitment to experiential and interdisciplinary learning\, the Department of Social Sciences at SZABIST University Islamabad organized an academic field visit to Taxila for students enrolled in the Culture\, Arts & Society course. \nThe visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to engage directly with one of Pakistan’s most significant archaeological and historical regions. Students explored the Taxila Museum and key archaeological remains\, closely observing Gandhara art\, architectural layouts\, and material evidence reflecting cultural exchange among the Greek\, Mauryan\, and Kushan civilizations. \nThe experiential learning process extended beyond the field visit through structured academic report writing and classroom presentations. This approach enabled students to critically analyze their observations and connect theoretical frameworks with historical and cultural realities. \nConducted under the academic supervision of Ms. Asma Javed\, the activity emphasized the importance of field-based learning in developing critical thinking\, cultural awareness\, and historical insight. Such initiatives reflect SZABIST Islamabad’s focus on practice-oriented education and its commitment to promoting informed engagement with Pakistan’s rich cultural and civilizational heritage.

SUMMARY:Social Science Students Lead Community Development & SDG Initiatives at SZABIST University Islamabad
DESCRIPTION:Social Science students at SZABIST University Islamabad extended their learning beyond the classroom by actively engaging with communities to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, including SDG 1 (No Poverty)\, SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-Being)\, SDG 4 (Quality Education)\, and SDG 6 (Clean Water & Sanitation). \nAs part of a semester-based experiential learning project\, students conducted community visits\, needs assessments\, and awareness sessions with disadvantaged populations in schools\, slum areas\, and underserved neighborhoods. Their initiatives included health and hygiene awareness workshops\, distribution of hygiene kits\, clean water and sanitation education\, basic learning support for schoolchildren\, discussions on poverty and well-being\, and interactive recreational activities to promote community inclusion. \nApplying their knowledge of human behavior\, social systems\, and community engagement strategies\, students designed practical\, culturally sensitive\, and impact-oriented interventions tailored to real community needs. The project not only empowered communities through awareness and knowledge-sharing but also enabled students to develop essential skills such as empathy\, leadership\, research competency\, collaboration\, and problem-solving. \nThis initiative highlights how social science education at SZABIST Islamabad translates theory into action\, fostering socially responsible graduates and cultivating agents of sustainable change committed to meaningful community development.
