SUMMARY:Vice Chancellors and Rectors Meet in Islamabad to Strengthen Higher Education Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:An important monthly meeting of Vice Chancellors and Rectors of federal universities and higher education institutions in Islamabad and Rawalpindi was held at Air University\, Islamabad\, bringing together senior academic leadership to discuss key priorities\, emerging challenges\, institutional development\, and opportunities for greater collaboration across Pakistan’s higher education sector. \nThe meeting was attended by Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan\, Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar\, S.I.\, as Chief Guest\, accompanied by senior HEC officials\, including Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman\, Dr. Nasir Mahmood\, and Dr. Habib Boukhari. The gathering provided an important platform for university leaders and higher education policymakers to exchange perspectives on strengthening the country’s academic ecosystem. \nAir Marshal (R) Abdul Moeed Khan\, HI(M)\, Vice Chancellor of Air University\, welcomed the participating Vice Chancellors and Rectors and emphasized the importance of collective efforts\, knowledge sharing\, and stronger institutional collaboration in addressing emerging challenges and promoting academic excellence. \nDuring the interactive session\, university leaders discussed several key areas\, including quality assurance\, research and innovation\, inter-university collaboration\, institutional governance\, and academic excellence. Participants emphasized the importance of sharing expertise\, resources\, and best practices among higher education institutions and explored opportunities for joint initiatives aimed at improving educational standards and fostering sustainable academic growth. \nAs part of the gathering\, participants also visited the Cyber Security Centre at Air University\, where they received a briefing on the Centre’s activities\, capabilities\, and initiatives in cybersecurity and emerging technologies. The visit highlighted the growing importance of technological innovation and cybersecurity expertise within Pakistan’s higher education landscape. \nA significant highlight of the meeting was the official launch of the Young CEOs\, Entrepreneurs and Innovators Summit\, Expo & Awards 2026 by Chairman HEC Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar\, alongside Vice Chancellors\, Rectors\, and members of the organizing committee. The Summit is scheduled for 15–16 October 2026 at Bahria University Islamabad and follows recommendations from the 6th International Students Convention & Expo. \nThe upcoming Summit aims to promote entrepreneurship\, innovation\, leadership\, and industry-academia linkages among young people\, creating opportunities for emerging entrepreneurs\, innovators\, and future leaders to connect with academia and industry. \nThe meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation among universities and collectively contributing to human capital development\, academic excellence\, innovation\, entrepreneurship\, and Pakistan’s socio-economic and national development.

SUMMARY:SZABIST Islamabad Hosts TAYAR Training of Trainers for Youth Climate Resilience and Disaster Preparedness
DESCRIPTION:SZABIST University Islamabad\, through its Department of Social Sciences – Development Studies\, hosted a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) under the Training Adolescents and Youth for Action and Resilience (TAYAR) Programme. The initiative was organized as part of the National Volunteer Corps (NVC) project of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme\, in collaboration with UNICEF Pakistan and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Pakistan. \nThe training brought together Green Youth Movement (GYM) Captains and Vice-Captains from 13 universities representing Islamabad\, Punjab\, Azad Jammu & Kashmir\, Gilgit-Baltistan\, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The diverse participation provided a platform for young leaders from different regions to share experiences\, strengthen their knowledge\, and develop skills for community-based action. \nThe TAYAR Training of Trainers focused on key areas including disaster risk reduction\, emergency preparedness\, anticipatory action\, climate resilience\, and community engagement. Participants were equipped with practical knowledge and facilitation skills to disseminate these concepts through their respective universities\, communities\, and GYM chapters. \nThe program emphasized the important role of young people in strengthening community resilience and preparing communities to respond effectively to climate-related and disaster risks. By developing youth leadership and facilitation capabilities\, the training encouraged participants to take forward meaningful awareness and preparedness initiatives within their communities. \nThe collaboration among SZABIST Islamabad\, the National Volunteer Corps\, UNICEF Pakistan\, and NDMA Pakistan reflects the importance of partnerships in developing youth-led approaches to disaster preparedness\, climate resilience\, and sustainable community development. \nThrough its participation in initiatives such as the TAYAR Programme\, SZABIST Islamabad continues to support youth empowerment\, climate action\, disaster preparedness\, and community engagement\, enabling young leaders to contribute toward safer\, more resilient\, and sustainable communities across Pakistan.

SUMMARY:SZABIST Media Sciences Hosts Two-Day Constructive Journalism Training with Bytes for All
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Media Sciences at SZABIST University Islamabad\, under the SZABIST Centre for Media Innovation & Incubation (SCMI³)\, organized a two-day training programme on Constructive Journalism in September 2026 in collaboration with Bytes for All (B4A)\, Pakistan\, a human rights organization and research think tank. \nThe training brought together 12 aspiring journalism students from the BS Media Sciences and MS Media Sciences programs. The programme was designed to equip emerging media professionals with practical approaches to reporting stories beyond negativity and conflict while maintaining the core principles of journalistic accuracy\, fairness\, accountability\, and responsible storytelling. \nParticipants were introduced to the key principles of Constructive Journalism\, including its three major pillars: solutions\, nuances\, and democratic conversation. The training explored how journalists can identify\, research\, and develop constructive stories that provide audiences with a deeper understanding of complex issues. \nA key component of the training focused on the four essential elements of a solutions story: Response\, Evidence of Results\, Insights/Information\, and Limitations. Through discussions and practical exercises\, students learned how these elements can help create balanced and evidence-based stories that move beyond simply highlighting problems. \nThe second day focused on practical journalism skills\, including constructive interviewing\, story pitching\, reporting under deadline constraints\, audience engagement\, and using social media to encourage meaningful public participation. The hands-on approach enabled participants to apply the concepts learned during the training to realistic newsroom and reporting scenarios. \nOne of the highlights of the programme was the Session with Editors\, which brought together academic and industry perspectives. The panel featured Dr. Wajid Zulqarnain and Dr. Naveed from SZABIST\, along with Shah Abdul Sabookh\, Editor at Indus Broadcasting Communications (IBC News). The session provided students with practical insights into newsroom standards\, editorial decision-making\, constructive journalism\, and the importance of building and maintaining audience trust in Pakistani media. \nThe programme combined presentations\, discussions\, group activities\, story analysis\, practical exercises\, story pitching\, and an open Q&A session\, giving students an opportunity to connect classroom learning with contemporary journalism practices and professional expectations. \nThe training concluded with an emphasis on developing a more informed\, nuanced\, evidence-based\, and solution-oriented approach to journalism. It also highlighted the role of emerging media professionals in engaging audiences through responsible storytelling and meaningful public dialogue. \nThrough initiatives such as this\, SZABIST Centre for Media Innovation & Incubation (SCMI³) continues to create opportunities that connect media education with industry practice\, innovation\, and professional development\, preparing students to navigate and contribute to the evolving media landscape.
