Seminar on Substance Abuse and Its Treatment


An eye opening session was arranged by the Department of BS Social Sciences (Intro to Health Psychology) on "Substance Abuse and Its Treatment" to provide an insight to the students on dealing with issues like addiction. The Guest Speaker Dr Tallat Habib (Psychiatrist and expert in Rehabilitation programs) shared his massive experience whilst focusing on defining Substance Abuse (Alcohol, Tobacco, Benzodiazpine, Cannabis, Barbiturates, Cocaine, Opioids and substituted Amphetamines), Disease model of Addiction, Etiology and Interventions (Attitudinal Healing). Substance abuse, also known as drug abuse, is a patterned use of a drug in which the user consumes the substance in amounts which results in developing tolerance as well as psychological & physical dependence.
