Social Sciences Department at the 2nd Annual National Harmony Workshop 2017 (Manzal-e-Murad)

Pakistan is a multinational society, alienated geographically among separate regions with different cultures, languages, and socio-economic structures like many other countries around the globe. The cleavages along the lines of traditional attachment are fundamental to its existence. Since many years Pakistan is going through serious internal and external challenges while the main triggering agent in this regard was found to be the lack of national unity and integration among federating units. Since there was no such mechanism where the universities could be engaged in facilitating national harmony and integration, National Defence University (NDU) realized its importance and launched a project “MANZAL-E-MURAD” in 2015. In continuation of its pilot project, NDU in collaboration with GHQ and HEC anticipated to hold another extensive workshop from 22-26 May 2017. In this regard some public/private universities from Islamabad and all across the Pakistan were invited to participate.

The main objectives of workshop were as follow:

  • To enhance national harmony and integration among Pakistani youth.

  • To increase awareness about the challenges being faced by Pakistan and generate a sense of ownership among the academic community of all the federating units regarding national issues.

  • To increase national pride and confidence with enhancement of awareness among university students and academia on security challenges and role of Law Enforcement Agencies towards stability and peace in Pakistan.

  • To share common understanding regarding the possible solutions to existing problems of Pakistan.

SZABIST Islamabad was represented by Ms. Aliya Abdul Hayee, Mr. Abo ul Hassan Rashid, and Mr. Muhammad Ali Ilyas (BSSS). As a whole the experience was enriched with interaction among the delegates of universities from all across Pakistan as well as learned speakers from different walks of life, visit of various places like Heavy Industry Taxila (HIT), Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra, briefing about national security and harmony at GHSQ and GHQ headquarters as well as visits of different local universities.
