'We need to be more tolerant in the face of all the ordeals': Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan speaks at SZABIST, Islamabad

Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST), Islamabad paid host to the countryís most prolific laureates from various sectors over the critical and crucial debate of terrorism and the counter measures carried out by the government to obliterate this widespread ordeal.

SZABIST Social Sciences Society, Islamabad felt the need for student awareness on-campus towards this grave concern of terrorism, mostly subject to distractions on account of a boisterous and happening campus life. The forum was presided over by Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan accompanied by Mr. Rana Jawad (Bureau Chief Geo News), Mr. Qamar Cheema (Defense Analyst), Interior Secretary Mr. Arif Ahmad Khan and the Head of Campus Mr. Khusro Pervaiz Khan.

The event circumambulated the National Action Plan and its execution in the best interest of Pakistan. The National Action Plan was established by the Government of Pakistan in January 2015 to crack down on terrorism and to supplement the ongoing anti-terrorist offensive in North-Western Pakistan. It is considered as a major coordinated state retaliation following the deadly Peshawar school attack. The plan received unprecedented levels of support and cooperation across the country's political spectrum, inclusive of the federal and provincial governments.

It combines foreign and domestic policy initiatives aimed to crackdown and eventually eliminate proscribed organizations across the country. The plan was provided the framework for the Twenty-first Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan which established speedy trial military courts for offences relating to terrorism.

Mr. Aitzaz Ahsan replete with eloquence emphasized on the unaddressed yet vital aspects of the national security plan. He focused on the individual responsibility of a citizen and laid stress on being more tolerant towards their fellow countrymen and respect each otherís opinion. The country is going through an identity crisis and we need to recognize our true potential as a Pakistani and a responsible citizen.
