DRM Diploma Distribution Ceremony Held at SZABIST

A diploma distribution ceremony for the 1st and 2nd batch of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Programme was held in SZABIST on Thursday September 5 2013..

Deputy Director General, Knowledge Management CELL ERRA, Lt.Col (Rtd) Muhammad Akmal Khan speaking at the occasion said that in a country like Pakistan which is threated by natural and manmade disasters every citizen should be trained to deal with the crisis. We have the example of October 2005 earthquake when Pakistani masses were strongly determined and motivated to help quake victims but they lacked the required know-how to deal with the eventuality "he added".

Lt.Col (Rtd) Akhtar Ahmed Expert Disaster Risk Reduction ERRA while sharing his views said that we have launched this program to attract people from cross section particularly students towards learning disaster management strategies, because that dealing with disaster timely and effectively is not only imperative to protect human lives but also the national economy as any crisis directly or indirectly affects economic conditions and bring problems for masses.

Coordinator DRM Dr.Abdul Rehman Cheema congratulated and appreciated the performance of DRM students for equipping expertise of disaster management .While sharing the importance of this diploma program he said that this initiative comes in the wake of Pakistan's vulnerability to natural disasters & need to produce trained personnels in order to cope with possible eventualities in the future.

The event was attended by a large number of students and SZABIST's faculty.
