1st Inter University Three Minute Thesis (3MT™) Competition; Department of Computer Science

Department of Computer Science at SZABIST Islamabad paid host to the 1st Inter University three minute thesis (3MT™) Competition 2017 inviting students of MS-CS and PhD-CS from 12 Public and Private sector universities to present their research in 180 seconds. Participants had just three minutes to explain the breadth and significance of their projects assisting them in fostering their presentation and communications skills.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT™) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland. Research higher degree (PhD and MPhil) students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis topic and its significance. 3MT is not an exercise in trivializing or ‘dumbing-down’ research, but challenges students to consolidate their ideas and research discoveries so they can be presented concisely to a non-specialist audience.

Students from highly ranked universities participated and competed along with SZABIST Islamabad. Winners of 3MT were awarded cash prizes based upon the evaluation of esteemed judges from academia and industry. SZABIST Islamabad secured 1st Position, COMSATS Wah, stood 2nd and 3rd position was shared by SZABIST Islamabad and Quaid-i-Azam University.

The participating universities include: National University of Science and Technology, International Islamic University Islamabad, COMASTS Wah & Islamabad, Abasyn University, Islamabad, National University of Modern Languages, HITECH University Taxila, Captial University Islamabad, PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, University of Engineering and Technology Taxila.

In the end, Chief Guest, Jury members and Head of Campus praised such a healthy competition and the idea of sharing the research and its applications for the community.
